Bastille Ruggedized Sensors

Bastille is available in two versions; Bastille Enterprise (Permanently Installed) or Bastille FlyAway Kit (Portable).  Both versions can be supplied with Standard Sensor Arrays designed for use in climate controlled environments or with Ruggedized Sensor Arrays designed for use in more hostile environments, such as outdoors in humid, damp, wet, dusty, sandy, extreme cold or heat conditions.

Both Standard and Ruggedized Sensor Arrays have the same capabilities to intelligently detect wireless devices and networks. The Ruggedized Sensor is available for deployment in a broad set of outdoor environments leveraging IP67 certification and flexible mounting and antennae connection options.

The Standard Bastille Sensor is designed to operate from -5 C to +45 C and the Ruggedized Sensor can operate from -40C to +60C

IP67 Certification

Bastille’s IP67 certification for its Ruggedized Sensor Arrays means they have:

  • Protection from dust with no ingress or harmful depositing

  • Protection from water immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. This includes full rain and spray protection.

Sensor Array Capabilities

Each Sensor Array (Standard or Ruggedized) contains significant detection and processing capabilities including:

  • Dual SDR receiver front ends that can each sample at 61.44MSps (Megasamples per second) and detect from 25 MHz to 6 GHz

  • Two scanning 802.11ax Wi-Fi receivers

  • Both a system processor and FPGA which provide protocol decoding and signal interpretation.

  • The Sensor Arrays are certified by the FCC as 100% passive and do not broadcast on any wireless frequency and will not interfere with your existing RF environment.

  • The Sensor Arrays have no moving parts and are passively cooled via heatsinks.

Sensor Array Architecture

The Bastille Ruggedized Sensor Arrays are the leading edge of the overall solution, continuously monitoring wireless traffic in your facility. The Ruggedized Sensor Arrays utilize their on-board processing capabilities to interpret and consolidate information before transmitting the data to the Bastille Concentrator. The Concentrator further optimizes the received data, performs location calculations from multiple Sensor Arrays and crafts the events which are then sent to the Fusion Center for notification, reporting, storage, and API-based integrations.

Sensor Array Orientation

The Ruggedized Sensor Array does not have any built-in antennas and therefore can be mounted in any orientation that fits best with the installation requirements. External antennas should be connected to the ruggedized sensor such that the antennae have appropriate reach and coverage for the protected space.

Sensor Array Power

Power is supplied to each Sensor Array via Power-over-Ethernet or via the DC power input on the enclosure. Given that the Sensor Array requires ethernet connectivity, running a single cable to a POE+ capable switch is recommended. In the case of the Ruggedized Sensor the POE+ connection must be IP67 compliant and the sensor housing includes a threaded connector for attachment.

Antennas

While the standard Bastille Sensor Array uses a built-in antenna, the external provide waterproofed connectors for external antennas. This allows a greater range of antenna choices to better match the variety of conditions in rugged environments.

Sensor Array Upgrades

The Bastille Sensor Arrays leverage field programmable SDRs and FPGAs to perform in-place upgrades ensuring that any updates to device security, protocol demodulation, or RF detection capabilities are deployed without the need for physical access to the enclosure.
